Turkey wants to extend natural gas agreements with Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran. This was announced on Tuesday by the head of the country's Energy Ministry, Fatih Donmez, writes TASS.

"Our main suppliers are Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran. We intend to extend the contracts with them for a new term. We strive to meet our energy needs," he said.

The volume of imports of oil and petroleum products in Turkey in May 2022 increased by 13.2 percent compared to the same month of the previous year - up to 3 million 836 thousand 983 tons. This is evidenced by the data of the Turkish Energy Market Regulation Authority.

Crude oil imports, which account for the largest share in Turkey's oil imports, increased by 14.7 percent to 2 million 971 thousand 192 tons.

Purchases of diesel fuel decreased by 17.6 percent to 569 thousand 804 tons. The rest of the imports were aviation and marine fuel, gasoline, fuel oil and other refined petroleum products.

In general, imports of oil and petroleum products in May increased by 13.2 percent compared to the same month in 2021 to 3 million 836 thousand 983 tons. The increase in imports was influenced by the growth in sales of petroleum products after the outbreak of Covid-19.

Russia became the main exporter of oil and petroleum products to Turkey – 1 million 693 thousand tons. Next are Iraq – 924 thousand 337 tons and Kazakhstan – 284 thousand 280 tons.

The sale of gasoline, in turn, increased by 51.3 percent compared to May last year to 269 thousand 298 tons, diesel fuel – by 15 percent to 2 million 98 thousand 588 tons.

Sales of petroleum products in general increased by 19.5 percent to 2 million 498 thousand 521.

The export of aviation fuel from Turkey increased by 65 percent to 299 thousand 307 tons.
