The social network was accused of distributing children's personal information and illegal data collection

The Turkish Personal Data Protection Authority has fined TikTok 1 million 750 thousand liras for distributing children's personal information and illegal data collection.

The decision was made in connection with the identification of illegal actions in the social network regarding the processing and storage of users' personal data, as well as numerous software flaws.

As a result of the investigation, it turned out that after updating the privacy policy of the social network in January 2021, the default privacy setting for user accounts aged 13 to 15 years was changed to "private".

At the same time, the consent of users to the processing of cookies from the social network was not required, which also does not comply with Turkish legislation, the report notes.
