Turkey's revenues from honey exports in the first half of the year approached $ 24 million

Honey exports from Turkey in the first half of the year increased by 75 percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

As the Anadolu agency reports with reference to the data of the Union of Exporters of the Eastern Black Sea Region (DKIB) of Turkey, in the period from January to June of this year, 8,892 tons of honey were exported to 46 countries.

Export revenues in the reporting period amounted to 23 million 829 thousand 670 dollars.

Thus, exports increased by 134 percent in kind compared to 2021, and by 75 percent in monetary terms.

In the first half of 2021, honey exports amounted to 3,800 tons for 13 million 597 thousand 813 dollars.

The main importers of Turkish honey were the USA, Germany and Spain.

The first place among importers was taken by the USA – 7 million 904 thousand 362 dollars. Next are: Germany – 3 million 640 thousand 94 dollars, Spain - 3 million 378 thousand 193 dollars.

This year, exports were established for the first time to Slovenia, Peru, Maldives, Denmark, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, Barbados, Mauritania, Liberia, Bangladesh, Northern Macedonia, Taiwan and Portugal.

The head of DKIB, Saffet Kalyonju, told the Anadolu agency that in the first six months there has been a significant increase in honey exports from Turkey.

According to him, honey exports make a significant contribution to the development of the Turkish economy. Due to its natural diversity, the country has a huge potential in honey production, Kalyonju said.
